The Producers of the The Twilight Saga are trying to copy the Harry Potter Series blatantly. There is no point. The Book has too little a material to be divided into two films. While, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is vast, and engrossing, and easily eclipses the Twilight Saga whether it’s dawn, twilight, or new moon.

Breaking Dawn was such a disappointment. There’s no battle. Nothing happens. It’s like she didn’t know how to write a battle so she just has the Volturi surrender and say, “Okay, we’ll let your baby live.” A real author would have the conviction to carry through with an actual plot that made sense, or gave us an ending that wasn’t fairytale happiness just to make fans happy by not killing anyone off. Sorry, but that’s not how good authors and books roll.

Let’s face it. They’re trying to copy Harry Potter, except the only difference is that Deathly Hallows needs to be put into two parts because so many characters die, and the last book has so much going on in it. On top of that, J.K. Rowling actually had the guts to kill off some of her beloved characters, and not just in Deathly Hallows, but before that too.

Everything in the Twilight series is focused more around a love triangle than anything else. Honestly, the books do nothing more than make teenage girls believe they need a guy to protect them. Edward is a masochist, and I don’t care if Bella is a klutz, or that she might need protecting. Everything has to be done Edward’s way, and he has control over her, which a lot of people neglect to see.

The books are poorly written compared to many other franchises, so why break it up into two movies when the book isn’t anything great to begin with. Breaking Dawn was my least favorite of the entire series because she ruined it. She gave it the fairytale ending, gave the fans what she THINKS they wanted, but really, they wanted an ending that left them longing for more, not pages and pages of boring dialogue with the good and bad guys, only to be given a setup, and then a complete downfall in the end. It’s completely ridiculous!

I hope they change their mind and make it one entire movie, and hopefully they make the movie a bit different than the book. I also hope that it’s not from Jacob’s point of view either. I found that entirely irritating and pointless. The book has always been from Bella’s point of view, and then she basically changes it, except the very last part of Eclipse where it is in Jacob’s also. Big whoop. I honestly think she is a crappy author, and people have made too much hype over Twilight.

Also, who gives a crap about ‘that’ sex scene? They went around it in the book, they should do the same in the movie! They’re only having the actors show skin to sell more tickets and get more money. That’s the entire point of this franchise. They’ve banked in on it because of all the merchandising. Archies has become basically a Twilight store the moment you enter. Trading cards, shirts, pens, jackets, sweaters, everything you can basically think of. They’ve started to cast out other fandoms like Harry Potter and it’s ridiculous. This is just so f-ing stupid. Like they haven’t made millions off these movies already.

Let’s face it. Twilight is not even original. The only aspect of Twilight that is original is that vampires sparkle, which is the queerest thing I’ve ever heard of. The whole vampire falls in love with a human, been there, done that. Two sides that are enemies join together to fight. Been there, done that. I think it was Stephen King who said the difference between J.K Rowling and Stephanie Meyer is that J.K Rowling can write. It is true. It’s kind of disgusting how Meyer is making millions for being a bad writer. At least in Harry Potter, stuff happens and they have a battle. At least with Harry Potter, she created a world that was original, and yes, she’s made lots of money because of the Harry Potter franchise, but she wasn’t trying to cash in on something that already existed. She is actually a good writer, unlike Stephenie Meyer who gets so much hype because of one series that has done well.

That brings me to another point. The only reason that The Host actually did well in sales is because it came out the same year as Eclipse. Other then that, she hasn’t written anything outside of the Twilight franchise and it’s sad that people think she’s an amazing author. Sure, J.K. Rowling hasn’t written anything outside of Harry Potter yet, but look at how long it took her to write all seven books. It took years, possibly even a whole decade, where as Stephenie Meyer had all four books out within four years, or less. Take your time if you plan on writing something decent, goddammit.

I read the books, but I’m not a hard-core fan like some of those Twilight freaks out there a.k.a the Twi-Moms. I do see the movies, but I’m not exactly excited about them. It’s just something to do. Anyway, that’s my little rant. I hope some people start to realize that Twilight isn’t all that great. It’s hogwash actually.

Best Motion Picture of the Year:
1. The Hurt Locker
2. Avatar
3. Up in the Air

Avatar may nick it in the end. But it will be extremely unfair to not give The Hurt Locker the Oscar this time.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role:
1. George Clooney for Up in the Air

Colin Firth for Colin Firth for A Single Man could spring a surprise too with his first ever nomination. The early contender for the award, Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart won’t win it for me simply because the film was just an average one.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role:
1. Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side looks set to get her first ever Academy Award.

Meryl Streep for Julie & Julia, and Carey Mulligan for An Education, look like outside bets for the Award. Personally speaking, I’d love to see Miss Mulligan win for her heartwarming breakthrough performance.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role:
1. Christoph Waltz for Inglourious Basterds, will win it. He seems destined for the coveted prize this year.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role:
1. Mo’Nique for Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire

This was the hardest one to predict simply because the Nomination list is packed with some equally good performers in my eyes. Anna Kendrick looks to have an outside chance. But I hope Mo’Nique wins it. Her story is needed to be heard and acting to be seen.

Best Achievement in Directing:
1. Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker.

James Cameron for Avatar, will almost certainly lose to his ex-wife. Kathryn will become the first ever woman to win an Oscar (and only the fourth ever woman to be nominated). QT, the crowd favourite will lose out this time.

Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen:

1. The Hurt Locker: Mark Boal.

He will almost certainly get it for the grittiest film of recent times. I’d also like Up’s writers Bob Peterson, Pete Docter, Thomas McCarthy win something for the film’s sheer feel goodness.

Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published:
1. Up in the Air: Jason Reitman, Sheldon Turner/ District 9 (2009): Neill Blomkamp, Terri Tatchell.

This category was very hard to predict. These are my personal favorites. Not sure, if the Academy agrees with my choice. But I will be right. Up in the Air has the edge.

Best Achievement in Cinematography:
1. Avatar: Mauro Fiore.

This may throw a surprise or too. Barry Ackroyd for The Hurt Locker may win too considering the way he shot those grueling scenes in a seemingly unnerving way.

Best Achievement in Editing:
1. The Hurt Locker: Bob Murawski, Chris Innis.

This will be a close fight between them and Julian Clarke for District 9. Both of these movies are dited tightly. Will be interesting to see who actually takes it. But my best is on Bob and Chris.

Best Achievement in Art Direction:
1. Avatar: Rick Carter, Robert Stromberg, Kim Sinclair.

They may be the front-runners and my pick for the award, but Sarah Greenwood & Katie Spencer have a good chance with Sherlock Holmes too. But this will be Avatar’s because these are the awards the Highest Grossing Film of all time will have to be content with.

Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score:
1. Michael Giacchino for Up.

He has his name written in the Statuette. Such an amazing score.

Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Song:
1. Crazy Heart: T-Bone Burnett, Ryan Bingham (“The Weary Kind”)

Will win it, and deservedly so.

Best Achievement in Visual Effects:
1. Avatar: Joe Letteri, Stephen Rosenbaum, Richard Baneham, Andy Jones.

It’s a given.

Best Animated Feature Film of the Year:
1. Up, Pete Docter.

This was my favourite Movie of the year until I saw the Hurt Locker.

Best Achievement in Sound Mixing:
1. Avatar: Christopher Boyes, Gary Summers, Andy Nelson, Tony Johnson.

Best Achievement in Sound Editing:
1. Avatar: Christopher Boyes, Gwendolyn Yates Whittle.

Best Achievement in Costume Design:
1. The Young Victoria: Sandy Powell.

The Academy prefers to go with a periodic piece. It will win.

Best Achievement in Makeup:
1. Star Trek: Barney Burman, Mindy Hall, Joel Harlow.

An Oscar for the Trekkies. Yay! :D

I have predicted 19 Categories out of the 24. I would have liked to have predicted all of them. But it’s not possible for me to do so since I have not watched all the Documentaries, or the Foreign Language Films.
